The Principal Application Engineer uses a vast repertoire of experience delivering high impact software solutions to work intuitively. This Engineer role knows where to look if something breaks and is key in solving challenges quickly. Principal Application Engineers are skilled in (re)design and spend more time documenting than coding.

Responsibilities

• Creates solutions addressing high impact technology and business priorities
• Competent in multiple contexts, including programming languages, security, automation, testing, and business domains and is the go-to person for many people (inside and outside of their team)
• Participates in strategic technology decisions and learns how these decisions impact Discover as a whole
• Proactively identifies and mitigates issues based on intuition and experience in multiple domains
• Coaches technology communities at Discover

Minimum Qualifications

At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:

• Bachelors – Computer Science or related
• 6+ Years -- Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
• Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of proficient on the Dreyfus engineering scale

Preferred Qualifications

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Experience as part of an Agile engineering or development team
• Understanding of software testing principles and methodologies
• Strong understanding of JavaScript (ECMAScript 2015+) with the ability to write clean and concise code
• Strong experience with ReactJS development in a customer facing system
• Experience in implementing mobile-first responsive web development technologies (CSS, HTML, ReactJS)
• Familiar with accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA, etc)
• Familiar with best practices around secure coding and vulnerability detection / remediation
• Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub, Nexus, Artifactory
• Experience with implementation of automated test suites
• Experience in writing concise technical documentation.
