Job Summary
Prepares institutional animal care protocols and assists with the preparation of presentations and manuscripts reporting research results.

Responsibilities
Perform experiments that may involve studies in transgenic and knock-out mice.
Daily observation of animals to assess their health, welfare, and any possible impact of research manipulation.
Other lab duties may include cell culture and molecular biology assays.
Ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
Creates first drafts for scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
Trains and mentor laboratory personnel.
Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis. Facilitates and promotes a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
Develops laboratory protocols and training on new techniques. Manage, analyze, and make recommendations on complex data sets for research.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Ph.D. in Cell Biology.
Experience:
Experience performing experiments involving tissue culture of mammalian cells and genetically manipulated mouse models.
Experience studying cataracts and lens cells.
Experience studying the cell biology of gap junctions.
Preferred Competencies
Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and data analysis software (including NIH ImageJ for analysis of micrographs).
Analytical and problem-solving skills.
Attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Peer-reviewed scientific publications in the cell biology and/or ophthalmology literature.
