The Department of Pathology has a long and rich history of excellence in clinical service, training, and research. Our physicians and scientists are experts in a variety of subspecialties in anatomic pathology, laboratory medicine, genomics and molecular pathology, investigational pathology, and immunology. Our diverse faculty study and diagnose patient disease and medical conditions using state-of-the-art methodologies. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.
About the Department
As a Research Specialist, you will perform research focused on epithelial barrier regulation; this work will include mouse models, organoid models, and epithelial cell culture. Emphasizing the growth and banking of organoid models and cell lines; physiological, cell biological, and disease modeling; and drug testing – ultimately, this research is expected to lead to the improved understanding of multiple disease states, with a particular emphasis in gastrointestinal diseases. As an integral member of the team, you may also collaborate with other laboratories and faculty members as well as with other research scientists at various levels of training within the home laboratory.
Provides technical and administrative support for a research project.
Collects and enters data. Assists in analyzing data. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
Assists with the installation, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
May assist recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Is developing skills in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
Performs other related work as needed.
Education:Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).
Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Sciences or a related field.
Demonstrates technical excellence in cell culture.
Experience with molecular biology techniques.
Knowledge of research techniques or methods.
Knowledge and comfort working with Microsoft Office.
Quick learner with exceptional responsibility and organizational skills.
Ability to train others.
Attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
